MEADVILLE, Pa.-- The Allegheny College women's basketball team fell in nonconference action to Bethany College 74-53 Tuesday (Dec. 19) in Meadville.,
The Gators (3-7) gained an early 6-1 advantage in the opening three minutes, but the Bison (4-6) quickly closed the gap. At the five minute mark of the half, the Bison gained their first lead since the opening basket, 7-6. The teams went back-and-forth the rest of the half, as they found themselves tied at 11 in the closing seconds. With four seconds on the clock, the Bison converted a three to take a 14-11 lead into the second quarter.
The Bison lead grew to 19-11 before
Delaney Arbore got the Gators on the board in the second half. Throughout the quarter, the Bison limited the Gator offensive chance as they outscored Allegheny 25-10 in the quarter to take a 39-21 lead into the half.
Arbore led the Gators with eight points.
Julianna Skowron had seven points and three rebounds. For the half, the Gators shot 37.0% (10-of-27).
In the third quarter, the Bison increased their lead to as much as 28, 56-28, late in the quarter. The Gators made up some ground in the waning minutes but the Bison took a 58-33 lead into the fourth.
The Gators had their best offensive output of the night in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Bison 20-16 but it was not enough to overcome the deficit.
Brooke Smith led the Gators with 13 points and eight rebounds.
Rylee Donovan was also in double figures with 10 points to go with three assists and three steals. Skowron added nine points while Arbore had eight and three assists.
Jazmen Moore had six points and three steals. For the game, the Gators shot 38.9% (21-of-54).
The Gators return to action Dec. 30 as they travel to Moravian College for a weekend tournament.
