Second Half Surge Leads Moravian Over Gators

BETHLEHEM, Pa.—The Allegheny College women's basketball team returned to action Saturday (Dec. 30) at the Moravian College Invitational.  The Gators fell to host Moravian 86-67.
 
The Gators got out to a quick 7-0 run to open the game.  After a three by Delaney Arbore, Rylee Donovan hit a pair of free-throws.  Arbore closed the run she started with a jumper to make it 7-0.  The lead was short lived as the Greyhounds put together an 11-4 run to tie the game.  After trading points, Zoe Soilis hit a three to give the Gators 16-13.  The Gators maintained their advantage throughout the remainder of the quarter as they took a 21-18 lead into the second.
 
The Greyhounds opened the second quarter on a 5-0 run to take a 23-21 lead.  Arbore tied the game for the Gators at 23 with a jumper but a quick three by Moravian put them in front once again, leading to a Gator timeout.  Following the timeout, the Greyhound advantage grew to seven, 32-25.  Trailing 32-25, Arbore hit a pair of three pointers to lead the Gators on a 6-2 run, cutting the lead to 34-31.  However, the Greyounds outscored Allegheny 6-3 in the waning minutes of the half to own a 40-34 lead heading into the locker room.
 
Arbore led the Gators with 13 points in the opening half, hitting three-of-four three pointers.  Donovan and Soilis had five points apiece.  For the half, the Gators shot 43.3% (13-of-30). Julianna Skowron and Madison Caufield had six rebounds each. 
 
The Greyhounds offense heated up coming out of the locker room.  Midway through the quarter, the Greyhounds lead reached 24 points, 64-40.  The lead grew to as much as 26 in the quarter as Moravian led 72-47 entering the final quarter. 
 
The Gators made up some ground in the fourth quarter, cutting the lead to 19, but it was not enough to overcome the Greyhound advantage. 
 
Arbore led the Gators 15 points.  Rylee Donovan also finished in double digits with 12 points to go with a team-high five assists.  Caufield just missed a double-double, finishing with 10 points and nine rebounds.  Skowron ended with six points and five rebounds. 
 
For the game, the Gators shot 41.5% (27-of-65) from the field. 
 
The Gators return to action Sunday (Dec. 31) to face Penn State- Lehigh Valley at the Moravian Invitational.
