Gators Fall to Carnegie Mellon in Home Tilt

MEADVILLE, Pa.— The Allegheny College women's basketball team fell 76-47 at home against Carnegie Mellon University Saturday (Nov. 18) to close out action at the Greg Richards '08 Memorial Classic, presented by Marquette Savings Bank.
 
After the Tartans scored the opening basket with a three, the Gators went on a 10-0 run to gain control.  Following a Carnegie Mellon timeout, the Gators added four more before the Tartans broke up the run.  The Tartans slowly chipped away at the nine point lead but the Gators lead 20-16 after the first.
 
The Tartans controlled the pace early in the second quarter as a 5-0 run gave them a 21-20 lead.  The lead grew to 27-21 before a long three by Candaisy Crawford cut the lead to 27-24.  However, the Tartans closed the half on a 7-0 run to take a 35-25 lead into the half. 
 
Crawford led the Gators with 10 points in the opening half.  Rylee Donovan and Kiersten Librizzi had four rebounds apiece. 
 
In the third quarter, the Tartan lead grew to as much as 21 midway through.  The Gators went on a run down the stretch, bringing lead down 14 before the Tartans took a 55-38 lead into the final frame.
 
Carnegie Mellon outscored the Gators 21-9 in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
 
Crawford led the Gators with 12 points and four rebounds.  Julianna Skowron had eight points and a team-high nine rebounds.  Donovan finished with seven points and six rebounds.  Kaylah Pinkney had eight rebounds and six points while Brooke Smith collected six rebounds. 
 
The Tartans held a slight edge on rebounds 53-53.  For the game, the Gators shot 25% (17-of-68) but were 11-of-15 (73.3%) on free throws.
 
The Gators are back in action at home Tuesday (Nov. 21), playing host to Mount Union at 6 p.m.
