Gators Fall to College of Brockport

BROCKPORT, N.Y.—The Allegheny College volleyball team were unable to overcome the College of Brockport Friday (Oct. 27) as they fell in nonconference play 3-0.
 
The Golden Eagles won the sets 25-13, 25-20, 25-19.
 
The teams were evenly matched in the early portion of the first set.  The Golden Eagles gained control with a 7-0 run tied at seven.  The Gators were unable to overcome that run as they lost the first set 25-13.
 
The Golden Eagles opened the second set on a 7-2 run.  The Gators regained their footing, fighting back to tie the set at 10.  Tied at ten, the Gators won the next three points to take a 13-10 lead.  The advantage grew to 15-11 before the Golden Eagles mounted a comeback.  A 5-0 run put Brockport back in front 19-17.  Allegheny tied the game at 19 off a 2-0 run, but Brockport responded with 6-1 run to finish the set.
 
After an even start in the third, the Golden Eagles rattled off a 4-0 run to take a 10-4 lead.  They maintained that lead until the Gators fought back midway through.  Trailing 16-12, the Gators went on a 5-2 run to bring the score within one at 18-17.  Brockport responded with a 3-0 run to take a 21-17 lead.  The Gatos fended off a pair of match points before the Golden Eagles were able to seal the match on a kill, 25-19.
 
Leah Franzluebbers and Hannah Cubarney led the Gators with five kills apiece while Justine Kelly and Elizabeth Debich had four each.  Rachel Slotterback led the Gators in serving with six aces. 
 
Defensively, Eden Merkle led the Gators with eught digs.  Kylee Karczewski had seven while Slotterback and Terra Schall had four. 
 
The Gators conclude their season Saturday (Oct. 28) with a pair of matches against SUNY Geneseo and Houghton.
