Gators Split on Final Day of Season

HOUGHTON, N.Y.—On their final day of the season, the Allegheny College volleyball team split a pair of matches played at Houghton College Saturday (Oct. 28).
 
The Gators fell to SUNY Geneseo 3-0 before defeating host Houghton in four sets.
 
Against Houghton, Allegheny won the sets 25-18, 22-25, 25-16, 25-21.
 
The teams were equally matched early on but a 5-0 Gator run propelled them to a 12-7 lead.  The Gators were able to maintain that lead throughout the set as Houghton never pulled within more than four points as Allegheny captured the set 25-18.
 
Houghton found the advantage early in the second set, jumping out to a 14-7 lead.   The Gators regained their composure and answered with a 10-3 run to tie the set at 17.  The teams traded points until they were tied at 22-22.  The Highlanders closed the set on a 3-0 run to tie the match at one set apiece. 
 
The Gators started the third set on a 5-2 run, but the Highlanders tied the set at eight.  The teams remained tied until 14-14 when the Gators went on a 9-0 run to take a 23-14 lead.  The Highlanders made up some ground but the Gators closed the set 25-16 to take a 2-1 lead.
 
The momentum carried over to the fourth set for the Gators as they took a 5-1 lead.  The Gators maintained that lead and grew it to 17-10.  The lead increased to as much as 21-13 before the Gators earned a match point at 24-17.   The Highlanders won four straight points before Alysha Crowther ended the match with a kill.
 
Leah Franzluebbers led the Gators with 14 kills and six total blocks.  Karissa Welker was also in double digits with ten while Hannah Cubarney had nine.  Tamara Babic added nine.  Justine Kelly tallied 43 assists.
 
Terra Schall led the Gators with 20 digs and five aces.  Rachel Slotterback also reached double digits in the dig column with 13.  Kelly and Kylee Karczewski had six apiece. 
 
The Gators fell to SUNY Geneseo by the scores of 25-19, 25-13, 25-17. 
 
Babic led the Gators with five kills.  Franzluebbers had four while Kelly added three.  Kelly also had 15 assists.  Slotterback led the Gators with nine digs.
 
Schall finished her career with 2,172 digs, placing second all-time in Allegheny history.
