MEADVILLE, Pa.— The Allegheny College women's volleyball team had their 2017 home finale spoiled by Ohio Wesleyan University 3-0 in North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) play in Meadville Thursday (Oct. 19).
Ohio Wesleyan won the sets 25-14, 25-14 and 25-13
The Battling Bishops got off to a fast start in the opening set, jumping out to an 8-3 lead, forcing a Gator timeout. The timeout did not stall the Ohio Wesleyan offense as they grew their lead to 13-6 before a second Allegheny timeout. After the second timeout, the Battling Bishops controlled the rest of the set as they took it 25-14.
Similar to the opening set, the Battling Bishops got out to an 8-3 lead before an Allegheny timeout. Once again, Ohio Wesleyan increased their lead to 13-6 before the second Gator timeout. The timeout failed to stall the Battling Bishops momentum as they took set two also by a score of 25-14.
For the third straight set, the Battling Bishops took an 8-3 lead, forcing a Gator timeout. After the timeout, Ohio Wesleyan continued to hit well, increasing their lead to 12-4, bringing about the second Gators timeout.
The Gators won the ensuing two points after the timeout. After an Ohio Wesleyan point, the Gators went on a 3-0 run to cut the lead to 13-9. After some back-and-forth, the Battling Bishops rattled off a 6-0 run to put the game out of reach. Ohio Wesleyan scored the final four points as they wrapped up the match with a 25-13 win.
Hannah Cubarney led the Gators with six kills.
Leah Franzluebbers and
Grace Lengauer had four kills each.
Justine Kelly had 13 assists.
Terra Schall led the Gators with two aces and eight digs.
Kylee Karczewski and Kelly had seven digs apiece. Franzluebbers led the Gators with three total blocks.
The Gators conclude NCAC play Wednesday (Oct. 25) at Oberlin College.
