MEADVILLE, Pa.—The Allegheny College men's soccer team played DePauw University to a 2-2 draw in North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) action Saturday (Oct. 14) in Meadville.
In the 12
th minute,
Matt Massucci scored after dribbling around defenders in the box. The goal was his first of the season.
Less than a minute later, the Gators won the ball back.
Bryce Evans capitalized as he scored from 10-yards out, his second goal of the season.
The lead was short lived for the Gators. In the 16
th minute, Jay Klein scored unassisted to bring the score to 2-1. Two minutes later, Klein found Peter White on a cross in front of the net for the equalizer.
Both teams earned chances during the rest of the half, but neither team found the back of the net as the teams were locked at two at halftime.
The Gators pressured DePauw in the early part of the second half, keeping possession down in the Denison zone.
Ian Chick nearly put the Gators back in front but the DePauw keeper made the save.
The Tigers controlled the ball throughout the final ten minutes of the half, putting pressure on the Gator defense. The Gator defense, anchored by goal keeper
David Stekla, were able to hold off the Tiger attack.
In the closing minute, the Gators had a chance on a counter attack but the cross was cut off by the goalie, sending the game into overtime.
The Gators earned the first opportunity in over but
Izaak Miller's shot just missed wide.
In the 100
th minute, the Tigers put a shot on goal but Stekla made the save to preserve the score. Shortly after the DePauw shot,
Eddie Opalko registered a shot but it went wide as they game entered its second overtime period.
Early in the second overtime,
Tolossa Hassan put a shot on net but it was saved. A minute later, Stekla made another save to keep the game tied.
In the closing moments, the Tigers pressured the Gator defense but the unit held strong as they game ended in a 2-2 draw.
Massucci and Evans scored the Gator goals. Hassan registered a team-high three shots.
DePauw held a slight advantage in shots 14-12, but only put a total of four on net.
The Gators are back on the road Tuesday (Oct. 17) for a NCAC contest at Oberlin College.
