LATROBE, Pa. – The Allegheny College volleyball team settled for a second split at the Saint Vincent Bearcat Challenge this evening, opening the day with a 3-0 (25-10, 25-16, 25-15) win over Pitt-Greensburg before falling to Muskingum, 3-1 (16-25, 25-11, 21-25, 19-25), in the nightcap.
Allegheny (2-2, 0-0 NCAC) featured another efficient offense in the victory over Pitt-Greensburg as seven players registered multiple kills and the team hit at a .261 clip. Juniors
Leah Franzluebbers and
Hannah Cubarney combined for 21 kills on 53 swings and committed just four errors. Franzluebbers tallied 44 kills over the weekend, collecting All-Tournament Team honors in the process.
Junior
Terra Schall surpassed Molly McCoy (1994-97) in the program record book for career digs as she now owns 1,276. Now in 11th place all-time, the school's single-season record holder sits 68 shy of breaking into the career top 10.
Third-year
Justine Kelly dished out 38 assists in both contests this evening and is at 1,938 for her career, which is the ninth-best in program history.
Making their collegiate debuts this afternoon were freshmen
Alysha Crowther,
Lauren Duffy, and
Lauryn Long. Crowther found the floor four times on seven swings against the Bobcats, while Long tallied 12 digs, six kills, and a service ace in the victory.
Junior
Karissa Welker paced the Gators against the Muskies with 18 digs, adding eight kills and a trio of aces offensively. Welker was one of three players with three service aces against Muskingum, joining Schall and junior
Kylee Karczewski.
Allegheny continues its season-opening road trip on Tuesday, Sept. 6 at 7:00 p.m. when it travels to Fredonia State.
