GAMBIER, Ohio— The Allegheny College women's basketball team fell on the road to Kenyon College, 90-54, Wednesday evening (Dec. 7) in North Coast Athletic Conference action.
The Ladies jumped out to a 5-2 lead but the Gators quickly cut the lead down, tying it at seven on a three pointer by
Zoe Soilis.
Olivia Barkley gave the Gators their first lead on their next possession with a layup. After trading scoring possessions,
Maia Joiner hit a three late in the first to give the Gators an 18-14 lead heading into the second.
The start of the second quarter belonged to the Ladies as they started on a 10-0 run to take a 24-18 lead.
Delaney Arbore broke up the Ladies run with a layup. The Gators brought the game within four, 29-25, but the Ladies responded with a 5-0 run that led to a 38-28 lead at the half.
Arbore led the Gators with seven points and four rebounds in the first half. Joiner and
Emily Smith had six points apiece. The Gators shot 31% (nine-of-29) from the field and totaled 18 rebounds in the opening 20 minutes.
The Ladies controlled the pace of the third quarter. After the Gators cut the lead to seven, 42-35, three minutes, the Ladies went on a 19-2 run to take a 61-37 lead into the fourth.
The deficit grew to as much as 42 in the final 10 minutes. The Gators cut into the lead in the closing minutes but it was not enough to overcome the Ladies advantage.
Joiner and Smith led the Gators with 11 points apiece. Barkley and Arbore also hit double digits, going for 10 apiece. Arbore had a team-high four assists while
Jazmen Moore had three.
On the boards, Barkely and Arbore had six rebounds apiece while Joiner collected five. The Gators totaled 34 rebounds.
The Gators are back at home Saturday (Dec. 10), playing host to Hiram College at 1:00 p.m.
