GAMBIER, Ohio— The Allegheny College men's soccer team went back-and-forth with 23
rd-ranked Kenyon College Saturday (Oct. 22) but ultimately fell to the Lords 4-2 in North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) action.
The Gators (4-10-2, 2-5 NCAC) had the first offensive chances of the game with a pair of corner kicks in the opening six minutes but were unable to convert the opportunities.
The Lords (13-2, 6-1 NCAC) got on the scoreboard first in the 22
nd minute when Oliver Wynn scored off assists from Woo Jeon and Bret Lowery.
The Gators evened the score in the 36
th minute when
Jack Walsh headed in the deflection of
Jorge Olan's blocked shot. The goal marked Walsh's second of the season.
Late in the first half, the Gators had the chance to take the lead on an
Izaak Miller header but Kenyon goalie Sam Clougher made the save to send the teams to halftime even at one.
Coming out of halftime, Phillips Stengel scored off assists by Alberto Carmona and Oliver Wynn to regain the lead for the Lords, 2-1.
Just two minutes later, the Gators found the equalizer.
Jorge Olan headed in a free kick by
Jacob Hanko to tie the game at two. The goal was Olan's second of the season.
In the 71
st minute, the Lords regained the lead, 3-2 when David Anderson scored off an assist by Woo Jeon.
The Gators continued to play the Lords tough but surrendered a goal in the 79
th minute as the Lords held on for the conference win.
Olan and Walsh had a pair of points for the Gators for their goals while Hanko had one for his assist of Olan's goal. Walsh led the Gators with three shots
Offensively, the Lords outshot the Gators 30-11. Of the Gators 11 shots, four were on goal. The Lords also held a 12-6 edge in corner kicks.
Chris DeNelle had a pair of saves in net for the Gators.
Allegheny returns to home Tuesday (Oct. 25) for Senior Night against NCAC foe College of Wooster at 7:30 p.m.
