MEADVILLE, Pa.—The Allegheny College men's soccer team fell in North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) play at home against 21
st-ranked Oberlin College 2-0 Wednesday (Oct. 19).
The Yeomen (12-2-1, 4-1-0 NCAC) got on the board in the seventh minute when Nick Wertman scored off a rebound from Jesse Lauritsen's shot. Throughout the first half, the Yeomen offense peppered the Gators (4-9-2, 2-4-0 NCAC) with shots (14) but goal keeper
David Stekla made four saves to limit them to just one goal.
The Gator offense had a couple scoring chances in the opening half.
Liam McNamee had a well placed shot in the 35
th minute but it was saved by Koryn Kraemer as they headed into the locker room trailing 1-0.
The Yeomen increased their lead in the 67
th minute when Trenton Bulucea scored just outside the box off a pass from Sam Weiss.
The Gators had a chance in the 75
th minute on a free kick but
Zach Stryker's shot has saved just outside the goal line.
In the final minute, the Gators earned an indirect kick in the box but
Tolossa Hassan's shot went over the crossbar as the Yeomen held on for the win.
Stekla finished the game with six saves.
Offensively, Hassan led the Gators with four shots. Stryker and
Bryce Evans had three shots apiece.
The Yeomen haled the advantage in shots (25-17) and corners (5-1).
The Gators are on the road Saturday (Oct. 22), traveling to NCAC foe Kenyon College for a 3:30 p.m. game.
