MEADVILLE, Pa.— The Allegheny College men's soccer team fell in North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) action to Ohio Wesleyan University 2-0 Saturday evening (Oct. 15) in Meadville.
The Battling Bishops had a couple of scoring chances early on but the Gator defense, led by goalie
David Stekla, stifled the opportunities.
Stekla had a tremendous first half keeping the Battling Bishops off the board. The Battling Bishops had a 15-8 advantage in shots in the opening half with six on target but the Stekla made fives, with one defensive save, to keep the game scoreless at halftime.
The Battling Bishops finally broke up the scoreless game with a Brady Whittekind goal in the 66
th minute.
The Gator offense created some chances deep in the Battling Bishop's end but were unable to convert those opportunities into goals.
In the 81
st minute, the Battling Bishops increased their advantage to 2-0 on a Kyle Baum goal assisted by Nick Norman.
In the final ten minutes of the game, the Ohio Wesleyan defense held up as they kept the Gators off the scoreboard and secured the win.
Stekla finished the game with eight saves.
The Battling Bishops outshot the Gators 23-12 for the game and owned a 12-2 edge in corner kicks.
Zach Stryker led the Gators with three total shots while
Tolossa Hassan and Izzak Miller.
The Gators are back in action Wednesday (Oct. 19), playing host to Oberlin College at 7:30 p.m.
