Hanko Scores First Career Goal in 2-1 Defeat

Jacob Hanko scored his first career goal in the 66th minute, but Allegheny fell to Mount Union, 2-1

ALLIANCE, Ohio – Allegheny College men's soccer junior defender Jacob Hanko tallied the first goal of his career, but the Gators were unable to complete the comeback against Mount Union as they fell to the Purple Raiders this evening, 2-1.

Allegheny (1-5-1, 0-0 NCAC) and Mount Union (3-2-1, 0-0 OAC) were even in shots at 8-8, while the Purple Raiders held a slight edge in shots on goal, 6-5. The Gators generated three corner kick opportunities to Mount Union's two.

Hanko was the only Allegheny player to register more than one shot as he tallied a team-high three.

The Purple Raiders first dented the scoreboard in the 30th minute with a goal from Jesse Tinney. 20 minutes later, the hosts doubled their lead as Mitchell Tiah put home a pass from Todd Cooper.

The Gators cut the Mount Union lead in half in the 66th minute with Hanko's first goal. Sophomore forward Izaak Miller tallied the assist, extending his point streak to four matches in the process. Miller has collected seven points (two goals, three assists) during the stretch.

Allegheny generated the last two shots of the match after Hanko's tally, but neither could find the netting.'

Senior goalkeeper Jake Pugliese made four saves in the loss.

Allegheny begins conference play on Saturday, Sept. 26 at 12:00 p.m. when it travels to Wabash.
