Allegheny, Baldwin Wallace Play to 1-1 Draw

Izaak Miller scored in the 61st minute, but a quick answer by the hosts eventually set the final at 1-1

BEREA, Ohio – Allegheny College men's soccer sophomore Izaak Miller scored his first goal of the season in the 61st minute, but a response three minutes later by Baldwin Wallace ultimately forced a 1-1 stalemate this evening from George Finne Stadium.

Allegheny (1-3-1, 0-0 NCAC) generated almost four times as many corner kick opportunities (11-3) over the 110 minutes, but Baldwin Wallace (2-4-1, 0-0 OAC) held slight edges in shots (17-14) and shots on goal (9-7).

Shots were even over the first 45 minutes at six apiece. The Gators had a couple of opportunities in the 35th minute, but a header from junior defender Aaron Donahoe and a shot from sophomore forward Bryce Evans were both saved by Yellow Jackets goalkeeper Zach Haynes.

Allegheny made five substitutions in the 58th minute, setting the stage for Miller's goal shortly after. One of those new faces, junior midfielder Liam McNamee, gained the assist when he gathered the ball on the right flank and sent a cross in the box. The sophomore from Norwich, Conn. established good position and headed it over Haynes to put the Gators up 1-0.

Baldwin Wallace answered in the 64th minute when Craig Wallace tapped in a free kick from Brayton Thornburg.

The Yellow Jackets pushed for a second goal as they created three prime chances in the 67th, 81st, and 82nd minutes, but senior goalkeeper Jake Pugliese was up for the challenge as he saved each shot.

Opportunities in the first overtime were scarce, but each team generated one last gasp for the game-winning goal in the second extra frame. Thornburg was stymied by Pugliese in the 105th minute, while Miller was stopped by Haynes right before the last buzzer.

Pugliese made eight saves on the evening. Miller rifled a team-high four shots and two on goal.

Allegheny is back in action this Friday, Sept. 18 at 7:00 p.m. when it makes the short drive upstate to take on Penn State-Behrend.
