BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – An early second-half equalizer from junior
Alejandro Weil was not enough as the Gators fell to Geneva, 2-1, on Saturday evening at Merriman Athletic Complex.
Weil scored his first goal of the season in the 48th minute on an assist by junior
Alex Marks, tying the game for the Gators after a goal in the fourth minute by Golden Tornadoes. The Gators out-shot the Golden Tornadoes, 11-8, while picking up a pair of corner kick attempts. Junior
Jake Pugliese made three stops in net, while freshman
Tolossa Hassan placed a pair of shots on target.
After Geneva opened the scoring in the fourth minute, the Gators had their first solid chance in the 11th. Freshman
Bryce Evans placed a header shot on target that was turned aside, as a shot attempt by Hassan was saved by Geneva goalkeeper Bryan Butler moments later. Freshman
Izaak Miller placed a shot on goal in the 27th minute, but it would be the final attempt for the Blue and Gold in the opening stanza.
Weil found the back of the net early in the second half, as the Gators were able to generate another opportunity minutes later after a corner kick by sophomore
Zach Stryker and a header by senior Corey Macmillian. The Gators were unable to place a shot on net after Geneva's tie-breaking goal in the 74th minute, falling to the Golden Tornades.
