Gators Blanked by Big Red in NCAC Opener

GRANVILLE, Ohio – The Denison Big Red found the back of the net twice in the first 20 minutes, spoiling Allegheny's North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) opener, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon at Barclay-Thomsen Field.

The Big Red held Allegheny without a shot on goal for the duration of the contest while unleashing a barrage of shots on target, tallying seven shots on goal.  Denison additionally held an 8-to-4 advantage on corner kicks, which resulted in the squad's second and third goals.  Junior Jake Pugliese made four total saves after allowing the first half Denison goals, while senior Axel Monzon led the Gators with four shots.

After Denison opened the scoring in the 12th minute, freshman Bryce Evans sent a header wide left for Allegheny's first attempt of the contest.  The Big Red responded with their second goal of the contest in the 18th minute.  Corner kick attempts in the 26th and 29th minutes did not result in Gator goals, as Denison closed the first half scoring with a goal in the 44th minute.

Freshman Izaak Miller and Monzon took shots in the 49th and 50th minutes, respectively, to attempt to jumpstart the Gator offense, but shot attempts were either blocked or sent over the cross bar during a series of offensive chances for the Gators in the second half.  Allegheny's final chance came in the 78th minute, when Monzon sent a shot wide left.  Denison held the Gators without a shot over the last 12 minutes to clinch the win.
