Raiders Stun Gators in Overtime

ALLIANCE, Ohio – Trailing by two goals heading into the final 30 minutes of the contest, the Gators scored two goals in just over two minute, but ultimately dropped a 3-2, non-conference overtime decision to Mount Union on Tuesday evening.

Junior Brenton Stoddart scored his first goal of the season in the 68th minute for the Gators to bring the squad to within one goal, as senior Axel Monzon followed with his third goal of the year, all scored in the last two games, to tie the match at 2-2.  Freshman Tolossa Hassan earned his third assist of the season on Stoddart's goal.

Allegheny controlled the pace early in the contest, generating three corner attempts in the first 11 minutes of the contest.  Hassan and Monzon both tallied shots on target, but it would be the last attempt on cage for the Gators in the half.

After the halftime break, Mount Union found the back of the net in the 48th minute to take the 1-0 advantage.  Corner kick attempts for the Gators in the 62nd and 64th minute came up empty, as Mount Union increased its lead to two goals with a score in the 65th.

Stoddart scored his goal with 67:30 remaining in the contest, registering a shot on goal nearly a minute later. Monzon was able to collect the rebound after Stoddart's shot, sending it into the back of the net to tie the game, 2-2.  However, Mount Union stunned the Gators with a goal in the 104th minute, withstanding the rally from the Blue and Gold.

Allegheny will next start North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) play, starting on Saturday, Sept. 27 against Denison.
