Box Score GREENSBURG, Pa. – The Gators dropped a 6-0 decision on Wednesday to the Pitt-Greensburg Bobcats, splitting the season series between the two squads while seeing their two-game winning streak come to an end.
Freshman
Jacob Shick finished the game with a game-high two hits, as each of the Allegheny one-through five hitters managed to grab hits on the afternoon while the bottom of the lineup combined to go 0-for-13 during the game. Seniors
Kyle Davis and
Mike Pezzone along with junior
Zach Gray and sophomore
Joe Killian each picked up a hit each for the Gators in the contest.
Allegheny threatened early in the matchup as Pezzone advanced to third in the top of the first inning after a Pitt-Greensburg error. However, the Gators were unable to score the opening run, as the Bobcats responded with a run in the bottom of the frame to take the early lead.
The Gators put runners in scoring position during the second and third innings, but finished the contest leaving seven total runners on base. The Bobcats picked up two runs on a home run in the third and three additional runs in the fifth to take a 6-0 lead into the sixth.
Shick launched a double to right center in the eighth inning, breaking a streak of eight at-bats without a hit, but was once again a runner left stranded in scoring position as the Gators were unable to drive in the run or prevent the shutout, unable to utilize a lead-off single by Killian in the ninth after a double-play essentially clinched the contest for the Bobcats.
The Gators will next travel to Erie, Pa., on Wednesday, Apr. 10 for a 2 p.m. matchup against the Penn State-Behrend before returning home for senior day on Saturday, Apr. 12 against North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) opponent Oberlin.
