Box Score 2 MEADVILLE,Pa. – Behind a career outing from senior
Brandon Ellis, the Allegheny baseball squad rebounded from an early shutout loss to split with the Oberlin Yeomen on Sunday afternoon at Robertson Complex. Allegheny won the second game of the afternoon, 11-1, after dropping game one, 9-0.
Ellis threw 8.0 innings, striking out a career-high eight batters while only allowing one earned run. The senior was complimented by a revitalized Allegheny offense that overcame their game one struggles with a definitive game two outing, sparked by a 3-for-3 performance by senior
Mike Pezzone, including three runs and two RBI.

Adam Bronson drove in a pair of runs for the Gators as sophomore Joe Killan and senior
Andy Feikls also connected on opportunities to score Allegheny runs. The Gators also had another successful afternoon on the base paths, as Pezzone along with juniors
Eric Weyant and
Zach Gray picked up a stolen base each.
In the back end of the doubleheader, Allegheny lit up the scoreboard in the first inning with six runs on five hits, as each of the squad's first eight hitters reached base on the inning. Weyant kicked off the inning by forcing a walk before Shick picked up a single through the left side. Killian drove in the first run of the game with a single through the left side, scoring Weyant and giving the Gators a 1-0 lead.
On the first pitch of his at bat, Pezzone ripped a single down the right field line, scoring Shick. After Gray was plunked in the first pitch of his at bat, Bronson ripped a single to left center to score two more runs, allowing Pezzone and Killian to cross the plate. DiMaggio singled to the pitcher to load the bases before a hard-hit grounder by Murray snuck behind the second baseman, increasing the Gator lead to 6-0 to end the first.
Pezzone picked up his second hit of the afternoon with a double to left center in the second, driving home Killian, who was walked, to increase Allegheny's lead to seven runs. Ellis took control with the early lead, retiring all three batters in the third including a pair of strikeouts while only allowing one run and two hits over the next five innings.
Allegheny took advantage of an Oberlin miscue in the bottom of the fourth, scoring on one of the Yeomen's two errors in the second game, as Pezzone crossed the plate for Allegheny's eighth run of the game. Pezzone struck again with a double down the left field line in the sixth, clearing the way for Killian to score and increase the lead to 9-1. Feikls ripped a single up the middle in the eighth, driving in sophomore
Hayden Smith for the second Allegheny run of the inning. Freshman
Chase Boyer entered the game in the ninth, closing the door on the Yeomen and guaranteeing a 3-1 weekend for the Gators.
In the first game of the doubleheader, Oberlin scored the scoring with runs in the first and second inning to give the squad an early, 2-0 lead. In the bottom of the first, Weyant doubled to left center to lead off the inning and stole third, but was unable to reach home after an inning-ending double play.
Oberlin's Mike McDonald controlled the pace in the first game, holding Allegheny to only two hits in the game. The Gators were retired in order during the second and third innings before placing senior
Kyle Davis on second on a fourth-inning walk, but again the Gators were unable to end the scoring drought, allowing the Yeomen to continue their 2-0 lead heading into the top of the third. Oberlin would score four runs in the top of the frame to improve the lead to 6-0, tacking on three more runs in the seventh for the final difference.
Gray led off the inning by advancing to first on an error before a single by Shick advanced the junior into scoring position. However, Oberlin clinched the game with a pick-off at first, earning the Yeomen their first win of the series in the process.
