No. 1 DePauw Remains Unbeaten, Upends Allegheny

Sophomore Jessica Mrdjenovich led the Gators with two three-point field goals and eight points.
Box Score GREENCASTLE, Ind. – The top-ranked DePauw Tigers utilized a 20-4, second half run to pick up a decisive, 91-40, North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) win over the Allegheny women's basketball squad on Friday evening at the Lilly Center.

Leading 45-20 at the break, DePauw finished the game forcing 20 Gator turnovers, while the Tigers (21-0 overall, 12-0 NCAC), ranked No. 1 in the most recent D3Hoops.com and USA Today Sports Coaches' poll, out-rebounded Allegheny (12-8 overall, 6-5 NCAC), 46-24 while shooting 46.2 percent from the field.

Sophomore Jessica Mrdjenovich hit a pair of three-pointers in the first half, finishing with a team-high eight points.  Freshman Aubri Caslin made a splash for the Gators against the Tigers, finishing with a game-high four rebounds and five points.  Sophomore Makenzie Zidek and freshman Meaghan Wilby each posted six points, while Zidek also led the team with four assists.

The Tigers opened up the game on a 10-1 run over the first 6:30 of the first half until a three-pointer by Mrdjenovich put the Gators back on the board.  DePauw would re-build a double-digit lead and maintain the advantage for the duration of the contest, holding a 27-point lead with 19 seconds remaining in the first.   A layup by sophomore Emma Pellicano in the waning moments of the half sent the Gators into halftime trailing the Tigers, 45-20.

Allegheny was held scoreless for the first 5:45 of the second half before a free-throw by sophomore Kaitlyn Fromknecht stopped an 11-1, half-opening DePauw run.  Caslin knocked down a three-pointer to give the Gators their first field goal of the half, but the Tigers shot 40.6 percent from the floor and a perfect 15-of-15 from the free-throw line while keeping the Gators to only nine rebounds in the second frame to clinch the win.

The Gators will next travel to Springfield, Ohio to battle the Wittenberg Tigers at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8.
