Gators Split New York Tri-Match

HOUGHTON, N.Y. - Allegheny went 1-1 in a pair of three-set bouts in its non-conference tri-match hosted by Houghton, breezing by Alfred in the opener before falling in straight sets to the host Highlanders in the final match of the day.

In the opener against the Saxons, the Gators (15-9) were in control throughout, picking up the win with set scores of 25-16, 25-17, and 25-21.

The Gator offense saw three players tally at least six kills in the win, led by Sarah Swartz, who hit at a .313 clip with eight kills and just three attack errors.  Bailey Gawley also tallied eight kills, while Taylor Samuel posted six.  Allegheny was also solid at the net, as they were credited with three solo blocks and six block assists.  Gawley had one solo block and three block assists, while Emily Adams also finished with three block assists.

Reigning Allegheny Female Athlete of the Week Catherine Kasianowicz enjoyed a strong all-around match, as she paced the Gators with 18 digs while tying a season-high with six service aces.  She was one of three Gators to record 10 or more digs, as Terra Schall finished with 13 and Justine Kelly 10.  Kelly also added 26 assists, while Kylee Karczewski had three service aces.

In the nightcap, Houghton (13-9) posted its second victory of the day with scores of 25-16, 25-16, and 25-17.  The Highlanders were efficient on both sides of the ball, committing just 12 attack errors and two service errors, while tallying 70 digs.

For the Gators, nine different players were credited with at least one kill, but the squad was hampered by 28 attack errors.  Gawley and Swartz led the hitters once again, with nine and five kills, respectively.  The Allegheny defense once again saw three players finish in double digits in digs, with 15 by Kasianowicz, 12 by Schall, and 11 by Karczewski.  Kelly recorded 23 assists, as well as three of her team's five aces.

Allegheny will now enjoy a week-long layoff before returning to action on Homecoming Saturday, when they host Kenyon in a special 6 p.m.start time at the David V. Wise Center.
