Box Score BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Gators exploded for three goals in the first half and held on for a 3-0 win over Geneva College Saturday night at Metheny Fieldhouse.
Playing with the tenacity in the first half that seemed to be missing in the first three games of the season, the Gators (4-0-0) struck early and often in the first half to start the season with four consecutive wins for the second straight season.
“Tonight was our most complete game so far this year,” head coach
Angelo Panzetta commented after the game. “This was a great team effort tonight.”
Senior midfielder
Conor Azevedo kicked off the scoring for the Gators, scoring his second goal of the season in the 5th minute. The assist for Azevedo's goal came from sophomore midfielder
Cameron Olson, the defending Allegheny Male Athlete of the Week. Olson is now tied with senior forward
Chris Brennan for the team lead in points, as both have recorded six points in the first four games.
After scoring the game-winner in Tuesday's 1-0 overtime win over Grove City, senior forward
Tyler Danzey found the back of the net for the second time this season, this time against the Golden Tornadoes (2-2-0) in the 26th minute. Senior midfielder
Travis Tasker recorded his first assist this season on Danzey's goal.
Finishing the scoring was junior defenseman
Daniel McCann, who netted his first goal of the season in the 36th minute.
Junior goalkeeper
John Lichina was stellar once again in goal, recording his third consecutive shutout. The net-minder made 3 saves for the win, raising his scoreless streak to 314 minutes. With Saturday's shutout, Lichina reduced his goals against average to 0.25.
Prior to Saturday's game, the Gators scored six of their seven goals in the second half or later, scoring their lone first half goal in the first game of the season, a 3-1 win over LaRoche.
The Gators hope to continue their undefeated start to the season with two more road games on the docket next week. After a Wednesday trip to Cheswick to face off against Point Park, Allegheny will travel to Pittsburgh to take on Carnegie Mellon Saturday.
