MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny women's basketball team will travel to Denison on Tuesday night for the quarterfinals of the 26th annual North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Tournament.
The Gators (10-15, 7-9 NCAC) secured the sixth seed and will face No. 3 Big Red (18-7, 10-6 NCAC) on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. The winner will advance to the semifinals to take on either No. 7 Oberlin/No. 2 Ohio Wesleyan on Friday at the site of the highest remaining seed after the quarterfinals. In the other quarterfinals games, No. 5 Wooster travels to No. 4 Kenyon and top-seeded Wittenberg plays hosts to No. 8 Hiram.
Semifinal games will be held at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., while the championship game is slated for Saturday at 7 p.m. The tournament champion will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament, beginning with first-round play on March 4.
This is the third straight playoff appearance under head coach Kate Costanzo. Allegheny has posted a 25-20 record in the tournament and advanced to its eighth championship game last year, falling to Ohio Wesleyan 73-65. During the regular season, Denison swept the Gators by scores of 57-55 in Granville, Ohio and 63-54 in the David V. Wise Center.
Allegheny has won six regular-season championships and is looking for its sixth tournament title. The last time the Gators won the tournament championship was in 1988-89.
