The 1983 Allegheny golf team captured the first team NCAA National Championship in school history, spurred by individual National Champion Matt Clarke. Allegheny trailed by ten shots after the second of four rounds, but a third round 318 total put the Gators just two strokes behind leader Ramapo and one behind Methodist. Allegheny proceeded to assemble a clutch final round performance. The Gators’ 297 total tied the low single-day score of the championship and gave them a two-shot win over Ramapo.
