Biography

The 1983 Allegheny men's golf team earned the first NCAA team championship in the school's illustrious history, using an epic come-from-behind effort to do so.  Allegheny trailed by 10 shots after the second of four rounds, before posting a team score of 318 after the third round to put the Gators just two strokes behind first-place Ramapo heading into the final round.  Allegheny proceeded to assemble a clutch final round performance, as its score of 297 tied for the lowest single-day of the championship and gave the Gators a two-stroke win over Ramapo.   Matt Clarke shot a four-round total of 297 (71-78-76-72)) to earn the individual NCAA title, and currently stands as the only player in program history to do so.
