Purnomo began his strength and conditioning career in 2008, as he spent the season as an intern for the Potomac Nationals, the Single-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, assisting in all aspects of the team's strength and conditioning programs from spring training through the completion of the season.

He graduated from Lynchburg College in 2006 with a B.S. in Exercise Physiology, and holds certifications as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) from the National Strength and Conditioning Association and as a Level 1 Sports Performance Coach from USA Weightlifting.
