Dr. Rebecca Dawson '00

A 2000 graduate of Allegheny College, Becky Smullin Dawson returned to Meadville in July of 2013 as a member of the faculty. Her official roles on campus include teaching and advising students in the Global Health Studies Program and Biology Department as well as serving as the female Faculty Athletic Representative (FAR).

Returning to Allegheny College was a dream come true for Dawson. And while she loves being in the classroom and collaborating with students on research, she treasures her time each week on the pool deck. "I am so thankful that Coaches Kirk & Kayla have welcomed me as a member of the coaching staff and trusted me with the training and nurturing of the members of the swim team," says Dawson.

In her role as the volunteer assistant swim coach, Dawson is on the deck a least once per week and happily assumes the role of team mom, where she is responsible for providing a shoulder to cry on, tons of encouragement, and lots of homemade treats for the team.

As a swimmer for the Gators, Dawson was a 15 time All-American and helped the team to three top-10 finishes in the NCAA championship meet during the late 1990s. In October 2016, Dawson was inducted into the Allegheny College Athletic Hall of Fame.

A native of Allison Park, PA, Dawson completed her Master of Public Health degree at Emory University (2002) and PhD in Epidemiology at the University of Maryland, Baltimore (2011). Becky is happily married to her husband, David, and together they enjoy running marathons together and are raising two wonderful children.
