Biography

One of the most decorated athletes in the illustrious history of Allegheny College, 2003 grad Jeremy Scott was a two-time National Champion, and four-time All-American, in the pole vault. 

After taking second in the NCAA Division-III Outdoor Championships as both a freshman (2000) and sophomore (2001), Scott burst onto the scene in a big way during his junior year.  In the indoor season, he became the first vaulter in Division-III history to clear 18 feet, capturing the national title with a leap of 18'0 1/2" (5.50 meters), which was the top vault in all three NCAA divisions during the indoor season.

His breathtaking performance continued through the outdoor season.  In one of the team's first outdoor invitationals of the season, he set an all-time D-III record. with a height of 18'2.5" at the Penn State Open, before going on to win his third straight North Coast Athletic Conference championship with a vault of 16'9".  'In addition, he also won the NCAC high jump championship with a school-record leap of 6'8.25."  He would then complete the indoor/outdoor national sweep by taking the 2003 Division-III title with a winning height of 16'6.75".

Following his record-setting junior season, Scott ended the year as the 15th-ranked vaulter in the United States, and 35th in the world, qualifying for the 2002 USA Track & Field Championships, where he took ninth with a vault of 17'10.25".

As a senior, Scott would add to his school record with a vault of 18'8.5", before entering the professional ranks.  In 2003, he was runner-up at the USA Indoor Championships, with a vault of 18'2.5", earning a rank of 20th in the world.  He tied for sixth at the 2008 Olympic Trials with a vault of 18'0.5", before vaulting 18'4.5" to win the 2009 USA Indoor Championships.  He was ranked number one in the US in 2011 after a career-best vault of 19'0.25", before qualifying for the US Olympic Team with a runner-up finish at the 2012 Olympic Trials.   Competing at the 2012 Olympic Games, Scott finished ninth in the qualifying rounds, with a height of 18'0.5".    Most recently, Scott took runner-up honors at the 2013 USA Outdoor Championships, with a vault of 18'6.5", qualifying for the World Championships, which will be held in Russia August 10-18th.Â
