Biography

Under rookie head coach Ken O'Keefe, the Gators won the 1990 NCAA Division-IIII football championship with a come-from-behind 21-14 overtime victory over Lycoming College in Bradenton, Fla.  Captained by David LaCarte and John Marzka, the Gators opened the 1990 campaign with a 30-30 tie over Juniata, but roared back to end the season with 13 straight victories.

After opening the playoffs with a 26-15 win over perennial power Mount Union, the Gators then topped defending national champs and perviously unbeaten Dayton 31-23.  Allegheny then topped Central (Ia.) 24-7 to earn a spot in the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl.  In front of a nationally-televised audience on ESPN, the Gators rallied back from a 14-0 halftime deficit to defeat the Warriors 21-14.

Ten Gators earned First Team All-North Coast Athletic Conference honors, while quarterback Jeff Filkovski, linebacker Darren Hadlock, center Marzka, and defensive back Tony Bifulco each earned All-America laurels.  Filkovski also went on to be named a First Team CoSIDA Academic All-American.Â
