Mitchell Czerniak joined the Allegheny College football staff in January 2018.
Czerniak arrived in Meadville after spending the 2016 and 2017 seasons as running backs coach at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The Red Men went 7-3 in each of Czerniak’s two seasons on the staff, as he oversaw a very successful rushing attack. In 2016, the Red Men averaged 159.3 yards per game on the ground and scored 21 rushing touchdowns, before the 2017 season saw them rush for an average of 141 yards per game and total 17 touchdowns on the ground. In both of Czerniak’s seasons on the staff, he mentored an All-Collegiate Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) running back, as London Townsend earned the nod in 2016, and Jamel Davis in 2017. In addition to his on-field duties, Czerniak also served as an academic advisor for the team, and assisted in a number of the team’s fundraising efforts.
In 2015, he began his coaching career as defensive backs coach at Beloit College, where he mentored First Team All-Midwest Conference and D3Football.com All-North Region safety Antonio Jones. Czerniak handled high school recruitment in seven different states, while also serving as academic advisor for his position.
Czerniak is no stranger to Allegheny football, as he was a four-year letterwinner at North Coast Athletic Conference rival Wooster from 2011-14. A linebacker, Czerniak played in all 40 games over his four-year career, amassing 324 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, and three interceptions.  As a junior in 2014, he led the Fighting Scots with 104 tackles, before posting an NCAC-leading 125 stops as a senior in 2015. He earned All-NCAC honors both years. Czerniak also excelled in the classroom, as he was named to the 2014-15 National Football Foundation’s Hampshire Honor Society.  Â
A native of Newton Falls, Ohio, Czerniak holds a B.A. in psychology from Wooster, while he earned a Masters in Higher Education during his tenure at Carthage.
