Mike Kashurba is in his ninth season on the sidelines with the Allegheny football program, and his sixth as the team’s defensive coordinator. In 2010, Kashurba’s defensive unit ranked second overall in the NCAC in total defense and finished fourth in the nation in rushing defense.
Eighteen players have earned All-Conference honors under Kashurba’s tutelage, while Allegheny’s defense has consistently ranked among the top of the conference during his tenure. Last season the Gators surrendered the fewest first downs in the league, while Allegheny’s third-down conversation percentage closed either first or second for the fourth time in five years.
Earning his M.S. from California (Pa.) in Exercise Science and Health Promotion, Kashurba coached the defensive backs at Mansfield University prior to joining the Gator staff. In addition to his coaching duties, Kashurba, who hails from Latrobe, Pa., also serves as the program’s recruiting coordinator.
A 2002 graduate of Grove City College, Kashurba was a two-time All-Presidents Athletic Conference (PAC) selection as a defensive back and was a four-time All-PAC baseball player for the Wolverines. He was a USA Football All-America pick as a sophomore.
Kashurba helped contribute to the Manual of Football Drills and Skills for Lauren’s First and Goal Foundation, while also serving as a coach for the Lafayette College-based camp. He’s also coached at the Pitt summer prospect camp and has spoken at numerous camps and clinics, including the Westmoreland County (Pa.) Coaches Clinic and the Champion High School (Ohio) summer camp.
Kashurba and his wife, Katrina, reside in Grove City, Pa. He’s a member of the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA), while he also serves on the Board of Directors for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Crawford County.
