Max Beal '14

Sumner "Max" Beal '14 serves as the Offensive Coordinator/Offensive Line Coach for his alma mater after returning home in March 2019. 

Beal was a four-year letter winner at center during his undergraduate career in Meadville. A captain his senior season, he earned the team's George Coon '77 Memorial Award, which is presented to a player whose desire to participate and dedication to team success have earned him the highest respect of his fellow teammates. He also helped with team volunteer activities in the area. He graduated from Allegheny in 2014 with a degree in history with a minor in communication arts.

Most recently, Beal was the Offensive Coordinator/Offensive Line Coach at Western New England in Springfield, Mass. In his lone season leading the offense, the Golden Bears claimed the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) championship and earned a berth in the NCAA Division III Football Championship field. Under his direction, junior quarterback Alec Coleman was named the CCC’s Offensive Player of the Year and six offensive players landed on the all-CCC teams. WNE finished the season ranked in the top 25 in Division III in seven categories: turnover margin (seventh; +1.36), points per game (11th; 42.9), first downs per game (14th; 23.9), sacks allowed (15th; 9), rushing yards per game (18th; 249.3), total offense per game (20th; 435.5), third-down conversion percentage (22nd; .470).

He began his coaching career at Western New England in June 2014, working as the Offensive Line Coach for two seasons. In May 2016, he took over as the Running Backs Coach at Tufts in Medford, Mass., where the Jumbos had their best season since 1997 at 7-1 in the NESCAC. He also spent a year at Hamline in St. Paul, Minnesota as the Offensive Line Coach and Recruiting Coordinator.
