Cody Crawford enters his third year with the Gators after joining the Allegheny football staff in June 2018.
Crawford arrived in Meadville after spending the 2016 and ’17 seasons as running backs coach and assistant video coordinator at Division-II University of Indianapolis. After the Greyhounds finished 6-5 during Crawford’s first campaign in 2016, the squad rolled to an 11-1 record a season later, capturing the Great Lakes Valley Conference title and earning a spot in the NCAA playoffs.  Crawford mentored a pair of All-GLVC running backs during his tenure, including Andrew Walker and Al McKeller, who was also named the 2017 GLVC Rookie of the Year. In 2017, Crawford helped lead a UIndy ground unit that averaged 230 rushing yards per game and ran for 27 touchdowns to bolster a Greyhound offense that averaged 38.2 points per game.
Prior to his two-year stint in Indianapolis, Crawford began his coaching career at his alma mater, Albion College, where he spent the 2015 campaign as the running backs coach. That year, the Britons finished 9-2 overall, tied for the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) championship, and advanced to the NCAA Division III playoffs, boasting an offense that ranked third in the nation in total offense (559.7 yards/gm) and sixth in scoring (47.0 pts/g). A major reason for the Britons’ offensive success came from Crawford’s running back contingent, as three players ran for at least 550 yards, including a pair of 1,000-yard rushers in Colin Parks and Mike Czarnecki, who were both tabbed All-MIAA.  Â
As a student-athlete at Albion, Crawford put together a solid four-year career at wide receiver. He appeared in 40 games, totaling 96 receptions for 1,210 yards and 12 touchdowns, helping the Britons earn MIAA titles and NCAA playoff appearances in both 2011 and 2013. He was the recipient of the Steve Gilbert Coaches’ Award, voted by coaching staff to the player who best demonstrates hard work and leadership, as well as the 2014 Captain’s Award, as voted upon by teammates.
A native of East Lansing, Michigan, Crawford was a double-major at Albion, earning degrees in both Kinesiology/Exercise Science and Communication Studies in 2015.
