Coach Maclean

Margaret Maclean

Margaret Maclean was elevated to the role of Head Coach in October 2021 after previously serving as the interim head coach as well as the assistant coach.

Maclean has been on the staff at Allegheny since July 2018. In her time, the Gators have had over 20 student-athletes recognized on the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Academic Squad, plus two NFHCA Division III National Academic Team Awards. In addition, Allegheny has placed numerous student-athletes on the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Academic Honor Roll, and following the inaugural season of 2019, a pair of Gators earned All-NCAC honors, with the first all-region accolade in program history being bestowed upon Kierstin Faw '21.

A defender, Maclean was named All-America for the 2017 season by both Longstreth and Synapse after leading a Pace defensive unit that topped NCAA Division II in goals against average (0.88). As a senior, Maclean served as team captain and led her squad in both minutes played and defensive saves (8), as in just its third season of existence, Pace finished 15-4 and totaled nine shutout victories. She twice was named NE-10 Defensive Player of the Week, and went on to earn a spot in the 2017 NCAA Division II Senior All-Star Game.

During her 2016 junior campaign, Maclean started all 18 games and posted a team-best four defensive saves, after she was a key member of Pace’s inaugural field hockey team in 2015 where she scored the double-overtime game-winning goal against the runner-up national champions. That season, she was tabbed an ECAC All-Star after making 18 starts and registering six defensive saves, two goals, and two assists. She began her career at Millersville University, playing seven games for the 2014 squad that won the NCAA Division II National Championship.

In addition to her athletic accomplishments, Maclean also earned a bevy of academic accolades throughout her career, as she was twice named to the NE-10’s Commissioner’s Honor Roll (2016, ‘17), as well as earning selections to the ECAC Academic Honor Roll in 2017, and the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Academic Honor Roll in 2016.

Maclean became involved in coaching prior to her collegiate playing career, as she has coached the Howard Stampede Field Hockey Club in suburban Baltimore since 2013. During the 2018 spring season, she received her first taste in college coaching while serving as an intern on the Pace field hockey staff, assisting with a number of administrative and on-field duties, while also becoming acclimated to the coaching end of the recruitment process. Maclean also worked as an assistant in the Pace athletic communications office during her final semester, helping to manage photo and video collections, authoring releases, and performing graphic design.

As a student at Pace, Maclean was a member of the school’s Athletics Diversity Committee and the school’s Captain’s Council, while she was selected to attend the 2017 NCAA Careers in Sports Forum.

A native of Ellicott City, Maryland, Maclean graduated from Pace with a degree in communications and minor in sports marketing.
