Matthew Mark

Matthew Mark enters his third season as an assistant baseball coach with the Gators. Serving as the Gators pitching coach, Mark made an immediate impact on the pitching staff. In his first season, he helped lower the staff’s collective Earned Run Average (ERA) from 5.49 in 2009 to 4.07 in 2010. That was the lowest team ERA at Allegheny since the 2000 season.

Under the tutelage of Mark, the Gators have produced back-to-back North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Pitchers of the Year in Matt Dishong (2010) and Mike Pereslucha (2011). In Dishong’s standout year he posted career-bests in ERA (2.65), wins (5), appearances (14), complete games (4), innings pitched (68.0), strikeouts (72), and opponent’s batting average (.238). Pereslucha experienced similar success as he posted career-bests in ERA (2.37), wins (5), complete games (2), innings pitched (38.0), strikeouts (46), and opponent’s batting average (.174).

Prior to Allegheny, Mark spent a year as the assistant varsity football and baseball coach at Indian Creek School in Wintersville, Ohio, where he also served as the behavioral teacher.

A 2006 graduate of Washington & Jefferson with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration, he was a member of the baseball team for three years, and served a team captain for two seasons. Mark helped lead the Presidents to President’s Athletic Conference (PAC) Championships in 2004 and 2006.

After graduation, he spent the next season as the assistant baseball coach at W&J, filling in for current Gator head coach Kelly Swiney who took the top assistant job at Amherst College. At W&J, Mark was involved in day-to-day situational analysis, field operation, and recruiting.

This past summer Mark worked as a head baseball coach in the IMG Wood Bat League located in Bradenton, Fl.  Mark is also active in the summer months assisting with several Division I baseball camps including the camps at the University of Kentucky, University of Virginia, and the Naval Academy Leadership Camp
