Wise Center Varsity Weight Room
Allegheny College student-athletes train in the David V. Wise Center in a varsity athlete-only weight room, a functional and versatile training space designed to support year-round development across all varsity teams.
The facility includes 12 Stray Dog Half Racks, each outfitted with landmines, trap bars, bands, belts, foam pads, step-up boxes, and medicine balls. Dumbbells range up to 150 lbs. The room is also equipped with safety squat bars, multi-grip bars, multiple sets of plyo boxes, and two jump mats, offering diverse tools for strength, power, and injury prevention training. Outside of the varsity weight room are the Blue Courts, which are utilized for speed, agility, and plyometric development, giving our teams space to train movement and conditioning in a sport-specific way.
Peak Performance Mission
The Allegheny College Peak Performance program includes two full-time peak performance coaches focused on an athlete-first approach. Holistically, the department is dedicated to enhancing athletic performance while prioritizing long-term development and injury reduction. We create a challenging, educational, and team-driven training environment to prepare student-athletes for success on the field and beyond.
Our training focuses on:
- Injury prevention and return-to-play
- Strength and power development
- Speed, agility, and conditioning
- Sport-specific movement patterns
- Nutrition, recovery, and athlete education
Training Philosophy
- Growth Mindset: We emphasize discipline, accountability, and leadership as the foundation of long-term success within sport and beyond.
- Sport-Specific Programming: Each program is tailored to match the demands of the sport, season, and athlete.
- Multi-Joint, Ground-Based Movements: Our training emphasizes barbell and free-weight movements to develop full-body strength and coordination.
- Multi-Plane Movement: Athletes will load in all planes of movement to correctly develop the qualities to improve at sport.
- Strength in Length: Athletes will work in a full range of motion during all movements to ensure the body is prepared for the demands of sport.
- Explosiveness and Power: Sports are played quickly. Our training includes plyometrics and resistance training tailored to development of power output and direct sport translation.
- Science Based: Programs are structured to follow proven principles, while varying the methods to optimize performance.
- Nutrition and Recovery: Athletes receive support and education on fueling, hydration, and sleep to sustain performance and enhance recovery.
