Biography

The most decorated swimmer in Allegheny program history, James Johannes won gold as a junior in the 200-yard Freestyle at the 1979 NCAA Division-III Men's Swimming & Diving Championships.  In his four years with the Gators, Johannes earned 23 All-American honors and set six records between the Freestyle and Individual Medley, and his times of 47.20 seconds in the 100 Free and 1:43.60 in the 200 Free still rank among the top four in program history three decades later.  In addition to his prowess in the pool, Johannes was also a two-year letterman on the Gator baseball team, and was elected to the Allegheny Hall of Fame in 1990.
