Campbell Strikes Twice in Win at Hiram

HIRAM, Ohio – The Allegheny women's soccer team picked up a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) win on the road Wednesday (Sept. 30) at Hiram, 4-1.

The Terriers struck first, scoring in the eighth minute on a shot from inside the box.

The Gators offense continued to produce shots, finding an equalizer in the 30th minute. After winning the ball on a Hiram goal kick, the Gators quickly worked the ball down into the box. The Terrier defenders knocked the ball free, but Angela Campbell (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) promptly pounced on it and chipped a shot over the goalkeeper to tie the game. The goal was her second of the season.

The game remained tied at halftime, but Allegheny took the lead just two minutes into the second half. After a shot by Madeline Schneider (Poolesville, Md./Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart) got blocked, Casey Bender (Allentown, Pa./Emmaus) picked up the loose ball and tucked a low shot inside the far post. The goal marked her third of the year.

Allegheny added to their lead in the 66th minute. Camryn Kunz (New Kensington, Pa./Kiski Area) sent a through ball to Katherine Surdykowski (Chesterfield, N.J./Northern Burlington County Regional). After a quick touch, Surdykowski was past the defenders, shooting from the far side of the box past a diving goalie for the score. The goal was her fifth of the season.

Campbell scored her second goal of the day in the 74th minute. Sydney Nichols (Fort Collins, Colo./Heritage Christian Academy) raced down the far side, taking the ball into the box. She crossed it in front to Campbell who redirected it into the back of the net on a quick shot for the final goal of the match.
