Field Hockey Takes Down Transylvania in Record-Setting Win

MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Allegheny College field hockey team celebrated Blue and Gold Weekend with a record-setting performance in Saturday's North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) matchup against Transylvania University.

The Gators (3-3, 1-0 NCAC) pummeled the Pioneers (0-3, 0-2 NCAC) en route to an 11-0 victory in their conference opener on the blue turf at the Robertson Athletic Complex. Allegheny set several new team records in the win, including records for most goals (11) and points (27) in a game. Eight different players scored a goal, and three Gators scored twice.

Second-year back Bryce Watford (Parkville, Md./Eastern Technical) paced all Gators with six points on two goals and two assists. Both of her goals came on penalty strokes. Watford's six points also set a single-game record.

First-year forward Teagan Ressler (Glenwood, N.J./Vernon Township) and senior midfielder Jamie Marchewka (Buffalo, N.Y./Amherst Central) also scored twice, and first-year midfielder Anna Merlack (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) added one goal with a team-high two assists.

  • Allegheny finished with 25 shots and 20 shots on goal.
  • Transylvania managed only two shots and one shot on goal.
  • The Gators earned eight penalty corners, while the Pioneers had six.
  • Watford (2g-2a) led all Gators with six points, followed by Ressler (2g) and Merchawka (2g) with four points.
  • Merlack, Maddy Keenan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Trafford), Rhyan Rish (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Jerome), Josie Hutchcroft (Silver Spring, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel), and Caroline Smith (Colorado Springs, Colo./Liberty) each potted one goal.
