Field Hockey Victorious in 2026 Opener

MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny field hockey team commenced their 2026 season at home Tuesday (Sept. 1) against Keuka, defeating the Wolves 6-0.
 
The Gators got out to a quick start. After earning a corner less than three minutes in, Maddy Keenan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Trafford) scored the first goal of the season for the Gators off an assist by Jamie Marchewka (Buffalo, N.Y./Amherst Central).
 
Less than a minute into the second quarter, Teagan Ressler (Glenwood, N.J./Vernon Township) tallied her first collegiate goal off a leading pass from Caroline Smith (Colorado Springs, Colo./Liberty). The Gators extended their advantage to three goals with five minutes remaining in the half as Anna Merlack (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine Richland) scored her first collegiate goal. Keenan scored her second goal of the game with under thirty seconds remaining as the Gators led 4-0 at half.
 
After a scoreless third, Mallory Furgal (Middleburg, Va./Highland School) increased their lead to 5-0 midway through the fourth off an assist by Josie Hutchcroft (Silver Spring, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel). Just thirty seconds later, Ressler found the back of the net for the second time as the lead grew to 6-0. 
 
Josie Smith (Abingdon, Md./Patterson Mill) earned the shutout in her first collegiate game, making three saves.
 
Inside the Box
  • Keenan scored off an assist by Marchewka three minutes into the game.
  • Ressler scored off an assist by Smith early in the second quarter.
  • Merlack scored unassisted in the second.
  • Keenan had her second goal of the game in the final seconds of the opening half. 
  • Furgal scored a fourth quarter goal off an assist by Hutchcroft.
  • Ressler found the back of the net on an unassisted goal for her second tally of the game.
