STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – Ryan Cochran (Pittsburgh, Pa./Deer Lakes) hit a trio of home runs Saturday (April 18) as the Allegheny baseball team picked up a 19-12 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) road win at Franciscan.
Game two of the doubleheader will be played Sunday (April 19) in Meadville at 2 pm due to inclement weather.
The Gators got on the board, scoring a run in the first on a
Michael Alspaugh (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) RBI single.
The Barons took the lead in the bottom of the second as they plated seven runs.
Allegheny made up three runs in the third. Cochran started the frame with a solo home run, his seventh homer of the season. The Gators would then load the bases.
Connor Kunkle (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) drove in the next run on a fielder's choice before
Ryan Hirschberg (Los Angeles, Calif./Palisades Charter) drove in
Tyler Skaggs (Champion Heights, Ohio/Champion) on a sacrifice fly.
In the top of the fourth, the Gators added two more runs. Alspaugh knocked both runs in as his double scored Skaggs and
Noah Philson (Greenville, Pa./Greenville).
After the Barons added a run in the bottom of the fourth, Allegheny produced six runs in the fifth to take the lead.
Nick Banez (Edmonds, Wash./Meadowdale) drove in the first run of the inning on a RBI single. A sacrifice fly by
Liam Irving (Olney, Md./Sherwood) brought
Zach Miner (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) in to tie the game at eight. Cochran put the Gators in front as he hit his second home run of the afternoon, a two-run shot. Kunkle hit a sacrifice fly for the team's 11th run of the game before the final run of the inning, Skaggs, scored on a passed ball.
The Gators extended their lead in the sixth as Cochran hit his third home run of the contest, another two-run shot, to grow the lead to 14-8.
Fransican put up four runs between the sixth and seventh innings to cut the Allegheny advantage down to two runs.
In the eighth,
Wyatt Burchill (Saegertown, Pa./Saegertown) hit a two RBI pinch hit double, while also crossing the plate on the play due to an error, as the Gators pushed their lead back to five runs.
The final pair of runs came in the top of the ninth. Banez hit a sacrifice fly, and Irving hit a RBI single as the Gators wrapped up the conference victory.
