CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Allegheny baseball team collected a non-conference road victory in Cleveland against Oberlin Sunday, 15-13, in the Moses Fleetwood Walker Memorial Game held at the Baseball Heritage Museum League Park.
The Yeomen got on the board first, scoring in the opening inning.
The lead was short lived as the Gators posted four runs in the second. A walk drawn by
Wyatt Burchill (Saegertown, Pa./Saegertown) and a
Connor Kunkle (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) single put two runners on.
Zach Miner (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) brought the pair home on a single to left center, putting the Gators ahead 2-1. A walk to
Ivan Schuster (Chino Valley, Ariz./Prescott) put a second runner back on base for
Liam Irving (Olney, Md./Sherwood), who cleared them with a triple, making it 4-1.
Oberlin made up a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame.
After a scoreless third the Gators put up five runs in the fourth. Irving recorded a third RBI as he drove in
Tyler Skaggs (Champion Heights, Ohio/Champion) for the first run of the frame. The Gators would then load the bases.
Michael Alspaugh (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) hit a single to bring the next run before Burchill had a two RBI single to make it 8-3. Miner registered another RBI hit as his single drove in Alspaugh as their lead grew to 9-3.
The offense continued to produce runs as they scored three more in the fifth.
Ryan Cochran (Pittsburgh, Pa./Deer Lakes) led-off the inning with a triple, and eventually scored on a wild pitch.
Eli Bryant (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) drew a walk and Alspaugh doubled to place two runners on. A Burchill groundout scored Bryant before Kunkle knocked in Bryant on a double.
In the bottom of the frame, the Yeomen pushed across seven runs, and added another in the sixth, to cut the Allegheny lead to one run, 12-11.
In the seventh, Kunkle came through again for the Gators with an RBI single to score Bryant. However, Oberlin matched the Gator run in the bottom of the inning to keep it a one run game.
After a scoreless eighth, the Gators extended their lead to 15-12 in the ninth. With runners on first and second, a Miner single up the middle drove
Ryan Finamore (Pittsburgh, Pa./Quaker Valley) and Burchill in.
