CLERMONT, Fla. – The Allegheny softball team wrapped up competition at THE Spring Games in Florida Friday (March 5), splitting their final two contests.
The Gators defeated Brandeis 4-2 in game one before falling to Northwestern (MN) in game two, 12-3.
Game One - Allegheny 4, Brandeis 2
Abby Robinson (Mars, Pa./Mars Area) led off the Gators with a single to right in the bottom of the first. Moving up on a sacrifice bunt and a wild pitch,
Jayla Jones (Pittsburgh, Pa./Avonworth) brought her in for the first run of the game.
The Gators added three runs in the fourth.
Morgan Kinney (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) had a lead-off single to center field. After a sacrifice bunt,
Maisy Post (North East, Pa./North East) brought her around on a single to right field, making it 2-0. Later in the inning with
Julia Perillo (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) aboard,
Madalyn Myers (Wexford, Pa./Pine-Richland) tripled to left field, bringing Perillo in for the Gators' third run. Myers would come across the plate on a wild pitch as their lead reached 4-0.
The Judges got on the board in the top of the sixth, scoring one run on two hits. They added another run in the seventh, but
Madison Hulse (San Diego, Calif./Rancho Bernardo) kept the Judges from making up the gap as she earned the complete game win.
Inside the Box
- Hulse picked up the win, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out four.
- Robinson had a pair of hits.
- Myers had an RBI triple and scored a run.
- Post and Jones both had a hit and an RBI.
- Lauren Folino (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) added a hit while Perillo scored a run.
Game Two - Northwestern 12, Allegheny 3 (5 innings)
Robinson started the game by reaching second on an error. Jones doubled to right to put two runners on.
Rachel Seneca (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) drew a walk to load the bases. Kinney hit a single to shallow center, allowing Robinson to come across the plate. A groundout by Folino brought Jones in as the Gators led 2-0 after the top of the first. However, the Eagles gained the lead with three runs in the bottom of the frame.
Allegheny tied it back up in the top of the second. Perillo started the frame by drawing a walk. Later in the inning, a groundout by
Samantha Phillips (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) brought her in, tying the game at three.
The back-and-forth continued as the Eagles regained the lead with a five run second inning.
Myers, Phillips and Jones all singled in the fourth to load the bases, but were stranded.
Northwestern pushed their lead to 12-3 with a four run fourth inning. The Gators produced two baser runners in the fifth, but were not able to push across a run as they fell in five innings.
Inside the Box
- Kinney had two hits and drove a run in.
- Jones doubled and scored a run.
- Phillips had an RBI and a single.
- Myers and Seneca had base hits while Folino drove in a run.

- This marked the first game between the Gators and the Judges.
- Allegheny is now 0-2 all-time against Northwestern.
