Men’s Lacrosse Falls in Season Opener at Otterbein

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Allegheny men's lacrosse team opened their 2026 season on the road at Otterbein Saturday (Feb. 14), falling to the Cardinals 17-6.

After the Cardinals scored the first goal in the opening minute, Jason Eason (Westlake, Ohio/Westlake) tied it up with the Gators' first goal of the season. Griffin Cates (Arlington Heights, Ill./John Hersey) would then put Allegheny in front with an unassisted goal. However, the Cardinals outpaced the Gators 4-0 the rest of the quarter to lead to 5-2 after 15 minutes.

The Otterbein lead grew to 10-2 in the second before the Gators ended the run. Mikko Horsley (Salt Lake City, Utah/Utah Military Academy) broke it up on an unassisted tally off the ensuing faceoff before Jack Pearl (Ladera Ranch, Calif./JSerra Catholic) scored his first Gator goal, assisted by JP Rakis (Kensington, Md./Walter Johnson). Pearl would score again late in the half, also assisted by Rakis, but the Gators trailed 11-5 at the half.

The Cardinals continued to add to their lead in the second half, adding four more goals in the third. After another pair of Otterbein goals in the fourth, Horsley scored his second goal late in the game as Rakis picked up his third assist. However, the Gators were unable to over the Cardinals as they dropped their season opener.
