MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny men's basketball team fell on the road in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play against Grove City, 77-65, Wednesday (Feb. 11).
The Wolverines jumped out to an 11-3 lead early in the opening half. A layup by
Ryan Lang (Sarver, Pa./Knoch) cut the deficit to 13-8, but Grove City responded with a 7-2 run to push their lead to 20-10 eight minutes in. The lead reached 11 points, 24-13, before the Gators mounted a comeback. They went on an 8-0 run over a two-and-a-half minute stretch to drop the lead to three points. Minutes later Lang hit a three pointer to make it a one point game, 29-28, with just over two minutes remaining in the half. However, Grove City ended the half on a 7-0 run to take a 36-28 lead into the locker room.
Lang led the team with 11 points in the first half while
Max Wallace (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) and
Pijus Latauskas (Vilnius, Lithuania/Kiski Prep (Pa.)) had five points each. The Gators shot 45.8% (11-of-24) in the half.
The teams went back-and-forth to start the second half with Allegheny cutting the lead to 44-40 five minutes in. The game remained close until the Wolverines produced a 9-0 run starting at the 10 minute mark to push their advantage to 60-46.
The Gators continued to battle till the end, but ultimately fell in conference play.
Inside the Box
- Lang led the Gators with a season-high 27 points, hitting eight-of-12 shots from the field. He also had nine rebounds and three assists.
- Latuaskis finished with 16 points and three rebounds.
- Wallace and Eli Teslovich (Belle Vernon, Pa./Shady Side Academy) had seven points apiece.
- James Sitter (Erie, Pa./Fairview) finished with six points.
- The Gators hit nine three pointers in the contest and forced 12 turnovers.
News and Notes
- Allegheny is now 73-78 all-time against Grove City after splitting the regular season series. They remain second in PAC North Division standings.
- Lang netted a season-high 27 points, tied for second-most in his career.
