Field Hockey Battles Past Kenyon

MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny field hockey team hosted Kenyon Saturday (Oct. 8), battling past the Owls for a 1-0 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) victory.

The Gators kept up the pressure early, earning three corners in the opening five minutes. By the end of the frame, the Gators had six corner attempts and outshot the Owls 6-1, but the game remained scoreless.

Play in the second quarter went back-and-forth. The Owls had three shots to Allegheny's two, but Rowan O'Toole (Glen Burnie, Md./Archbishop Spalding) saved both attempts on net as the game went into the halftime break knotted at zero.

Allegheny broke up the scoreless game four minutes into the third quarter. Off a penalty corner, Cora Miranda (Buffalo, N.Y./Williamsville East) sent a pass across the crease to Jamie Marchewka (Buffalo, N.Y./Amherst Central) who deflected it in.

The Gators controlled the momentum early in the fourth quarter, nearly adding a second goal, but Emily Jackson's (Oreland, Pa./Springfield Township) shot was stopped by an Owl defender. Kenyon put the pressure on the Gator defense for the final 10 minutes of play. They earned four penalty corners, but the Allegheny defense played tough in front of O'Toole as the Gators sealed the conference win.
