Antonacci Scores 19 Points in Loss at Saint Vincent

LATROBE, Pa. -- Despite a game-high 19 points from Isabella Antonacci (Indiana, Pa./Indiana Area), the Allegheny College women's basketball team dropped Saturday's Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup at Saint Vincent College, 66-45.

The Gators (7-8, 4-2 PAC) outscored the Bearcats (11-4, 6-0 PAC) in the second half, 32-27, but offensive struggles in the first 20 minutes created a deficit too large to overcome. Allegheny scored only 14 first-half points and fell behind 39-14 by the halftime intermission. After scoring five of the first seven points to jump ahead 5-2 in the first few minutes, the Gators were held without a point for the rest of the first quarter, which allowed the Bearcats to run away with the lead.

In the second half, the Gators shrugged off their shooting woes. The team increased its field goal percentage with each quarter, and after going 0-for-7 from 3-point range in the second stanza, they finished 6-of-12 (50.0%) from beyond the arc in the second half. Allegheny's best quarter was the fourth, as the offense produced 18 points while making four 3-pointers. On the other hand, Saint Vincent earned most of its fourth-quarter points from the foul line.

Inside the Box Score
  • After shooting just 24.0% (6-of-25) in the first half, the Gators shot 35.3% (6-of-17) in the third quarter and 45.5% (5-of-11) in the fourth.
  • Saint Vincent finished 38.2% (21-of-55) from the field, but held a significant advantage from the line, where they were 19-of-25 (76.0%).
  • Defensive pressure also helped the Bearcats, who turned 12 steals into 16 points off turnovers.
  • Rebounds were nearly identical, as the Gators grabbed 36 and the Bearcats hauled in 37.
  • Antonacci scored a game-high 19 points while shooting 8-of-14 (57.1%) with four rebounds and four assists.
  • Jess Bickart (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) scored nine points on a trio of 3-pointers and collected seven rebounds.
  • Sarah Santicola (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) scored six points and led all players with nine rebounds.
  • Ava Kobus (Pittsburgh, Pa./Norwin) was the only Gator to reach the foul line, where she made four of her six free throws en route to six points.
  • Saint Vincent's top scorers, Olivia Yancy and Emerson Peffer, both provided 15 points off the bench.

News and Notes
  • Antonacci reached double figures for the 14th time in 15 games so far this season.
  • Antonacci has made multiple 3-pointers in seven consecutive games.
  • Bickart finished with three or more 3-point field goals for the sixth time this winter.
  • With nine more rebounds, Santicola continues to close in on another major milestone; she needs only 25 more rebounds to become the first-ever Gator to grab 1,000 in their career.
