Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

First-Half Woes Hinder Men's Basketball Against Waynesburg

MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Allegheny College men's basketball team returned to the David V. Wise Center for the first time in 2026, but was handed a 64-49 loss against Waynesburg University on Saturday afternoon.

It was a grueling matchup between the Gators (4-9, 2-2 PAC) and Yellow Jackets (5-10, 1-3 PAC), defined by physical defense, hard contact, and a few of calls and no-calls questioned by both benches.

The 40-minute boxing match was decided in the early rounds, as the Blue and Gold struggled to find their groove in the first half. Both teams scored 35 points in the second half, and the Gators shot at a remarkable 61.1% (11-of-18) in the second stanza, but it wasn't enough to overcome a 29-14 halftime deficit. The two teams began the game with 10 combined misses, and with a lid seemingly covering the basket on the north end of the court, the Gators made only four first-half field goals.

The second half began in exciting fashion. On the opening possession, junior guard Jayson Perry (Tampa, Fla./Sickles) stripped Waynesburg's Casey Keesee at midcourt and got the Gator faithful riled up with a two-handed slam. Unfortunately, even a momentum-altering play such as Perry's dunk came with controversy, as the referees assessed a technical foul for hanging on the rim, which gave the Yellow Jackets a free foul shot.

Allegheny came within 10 points of Waynesburg on three occasions over the last 20 minutes. Two of those moments came following 3-pointers from James Sitter (Erie, Pa./Fairview), while the third brought the score to 53-43 after a pair of foul shots from Pijus Latauskas (Vilnius, Lithuania/Kiski Prep (Pa.)). An offensive foul called against Latauskas a little over a minute later nullified what would have been a trey from Ryan Lang (Sarver, Pa./Knoch), and the five-point swing following the two successful free throws diminished the chances for a last-minute comeback.
