PAC Release
TRAFFORD, Pa. -- Allegheny College defensive lineman
Michael Schanck (Homestead, Pa./Serra Catholic) earned his first-ever weekly award from the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) as this week's Defensive Player of the Week.
Schanck helped the Gator defense post its first shutout since 2019 on Saturday, as Allegheny defeated Thiel College, 26-0, in front of more than 4,400 fans at Blue and Gold Weekend. The third-year running back-turned-nose tackle finished with a career-high five tackles, including a half-tackle for a loss. In the second quarter, he forced Thiel running back Deon Logan to fumble the ball at midfield. In the fourth, Schanck recovered a fumble on a strip sack that ended the Tomcats' final drive.
Bolstered by Schanck's standout performance on the defensive line, the Gators limited the Tomcats to only 141 yards of total offense. Thiel averaged a mere 2.5 yards per play, lost three fumbles, and threw one interception.
Allegheny returns to action to face Geneva College on Saturday, September 27, at 2:00 p.m. as part of Hall of Fame Weekend.
