MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny field hockey team fell at home to Lycoming Sunday (Sept. 14), 4-2.
Neither side was able to break through for a goal in the opening frame.
Rowan O'Toole (Glen Burnie, Md./Archbishop Spalding) made a pair of stops to keep the Warriors off the board.
The Gators had a couple attempts early in the second off of penalty corners, but shots by
Caroline Smith (Colorado Springs, Colo./Liberty) and
Jamie Marchewka (Buffalo, N.Y./Amherst Central) were saved.
Megan Seymour (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) also had a quality chance on a shot, but was turned away.
Lycoming got on the board late in the opening half. After O'Toole made the initial stop off a penalty corner, the Warriors scored off the rebound for the game's first goal. Lycoming would then add a second goal two minutes later.
Allegheny made one up in the final thirty seconds.
Taylor Fordyce (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) crossed the ball through a crowd to
Naomi Krull (Hoorn, The Netherlands/Talland College) at the post. Krull buried the shot in the back of the net, cutting the lead to one heading into the locker room.
Early in the third, the Gators nearly found the equalizer but a shot by
Samantha Mura (Rochester, N.Y./Irondequoit), that initially got by the goalie, was knocked away by a Lycoming defender. Allegheny continued to pressure throughout the frame, but the score remained 2-1 heading into the fourth.
The Warriors scored two quick goals on the fourth to extend their lead to 4-1. Shortly after the second goal, Seymour sent a pass from the near side through the front of the net to
Mallory Furgal (Middleburg, Va./Highland School). Furgal was quick to redirect the ball past the goalie as the lead fell to 4-2.
The Gators played tough the rest of the way, but were unable to make up the difference as they fell in nonconference action.
